So really, what is a dual degree?

A dual degree (also known as a dual-level degree at 天涯海角社区) is a special program that allows students to earn both their bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degree at the same time. This is different from. Your workload is increased鈥攖hough not as much as it would be with a double major鈥攖o accommodate the dual degree requirements. That way, you complete both degree requirements in a shortened amount of time.

Is a dual degree right for me?

Sometimes, students who aren鈥檛 sure about their finances or futures will earn their bachelor’s degree first and then come back after a few years and earn a master鈥檚. This plan works well for students who don鈥檛 mind flexibility or a less straightforward path for their career. If you are more certain about your career and the type of credentials you want, a dual-level degree allows you to optimize your time and your protect your wallet with the streamlined track.

In other words, it might be right for you if鈥

  • You are confident in the areas of study you want to pursue
  • The career you are looking to go into favors those with master鈥檚 degrees
  • You are willing to spend extra time now instead of even more time later
  • If the college(s) have the programs you want as a dual degree option

Can I pick any two programs?

99% of the time, colleges have pre-determined dual-level programs to choose from. They are usually for programs that naturally go together, like a psychology bachelor鈥檚 and a counseling master鈥檚 or a business administration bachelors and an MBA. If you want a more customizable option, it may be in your interest to pursue the double major option instead.

How much will a dual degree save me?

Dual degrees can save you years (yes, years!) of time and thousands (even better!) of dollars. The amount you save won鈥檛 be a universal amount across colleges or even programs, but you can rest assured that no matter where or what you choose, you WILL save!

Yes (at least, at Cairn it does)! You can apply for FAFSA and scholarships just like you would for a traditional undergraduate degree.

If they鈥檙e as great as you make it sound, why doesn鈥檛 everyone do a dual degree?

Well, to be fair, not every college has every possible dual-level degree option available. Popular programs and degree 鈥減airs鈥 will take precedence over others. Additionally, not all careers require a master鈥檚 either, so it鈥檚 entirely up to you if you expect to want or need it in the coming years.
